Artist statement

Artist statement

In my body of photos I decided to choose portraits, in specific portraits of young women. All of my photographs are in color. I choose this concept because I love taking portraits of other people. I chose to photograph young women in specifically because I thought it would be the easiest to follow through with. I thought there would be no problems with scheduling or the types of photos I wanted to take. However, I was wrong. Having to work with models is hard because you always have to make sure you can be on their time. Also if the shoot does not work you will have to go out and reschedule and re-shoot if they are available.

One photographer that really inspired my work was James Hickey. James Hickey is a professional photographer in Los Angeles he creates artistic fashion images with vivid colors. I came across this photographer when thinking of ideas for my final. Although, I love his way he works I wanted to incorporate his idea with my vision in mind.

I would like people to look at these photographs and not only see a photograph but see the beauty in the models eyes. Originally I thought of photographing the models with extravagant clothing, but I felt like that would take away from the model herself. I would rather shoot someone in their regular, natural environment.

Final project proposal

Final Project Proposal
For the photo 111 Final I will present a body of work of young females between the ages of 19-21. I will have 10 images and the models will all be wearing similar clothing to produce fashion-like photos. I will be shooting 8 different models and i will choose different poses for each model. I will be shooting these photos all over town wherever I see interesting places to shoot. I will go out and shoot at the golden hour using only outside light, no flash. My photos are all 6 X10 and all 10 are matted.

Writing assignment Aaron Siskind

1) Aaron Siskind was very significant in his contribution to photography.  His work is known to capture significant detail. His photos are full of detail, his ficus was random things, such as markings on walls and figures on surfaces. Aaron's work was continually abstract, he shows abstract figures through photographing nature and architecture. His work today runs at around one thousand dollars up to over seven thousand dollars.

2) Abstract expressionism is defines as "the attempt of an artist to express their emotions without feeling restricted by realism." Personally I see this as a type of art when the artist is free to do whatever he/she may want to do/create without worrying about anything, they are expressing their feelings as they want to.  When I look at this form of photography I feel like I can express myself in a way that I love, by taking photos.

3) with this upcoming assignment I definitely plan to use some of the things o have learned about abstract expressionism by learning about Aaron Siskind. I plan to look at nature in a different way. I will pay close attention to detail and texture. One certain place where I am going to look at is on old roads. I think that there I will be able to create an amazing "Aaron Siskind" photograph because by paying close attention to those roads they look like they could make photo tell a story.
